Appendix Removal (Appendicectomy)

An appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix. It’s a common emergency surgery that’s performed to treat appendicitis, an inflammatory condition of the appendix.

When the appendix becomes inflamed and swollen, bacteria can quickly multiply inside the organ and lead to the formation of pus. This buildup of bacteria and pus can cause pain around the belly button that spreads to the lower right section of the abdomen. Walking or coughing can make the pain worse. You may also experience nausea, vomiting, and diarrhoea.

It’s important to seek treatment right away if you’re having symptoms of appendicitis. Appendectomy is the standard treatment for appendicitis. It’s crucial to remove the appendix right away, before the appendix can rupture. Once an appendectomy is performed, most people recover quickly and without complications.

Open Hernia Surgery

Types of Hernia

The defect in the muscles causing the hernia is repaired with open surgery. This requires making a cut over the skin where the defect is present. The defect in the muscle is identified and repaired using sutures and mesh. Mesh is generally used if the defect is more than 3-4 cm in size. This helps prevent the hernia from occurring again. There are various types and sizes of mesh and the best suitable for a case is used as per need. Patients are given specific instructions on how to take care to prevent hernia recurrence in the future.

Open Hernia Surgery

Hydrocele

Hydrocoele is a swelling in the scrotum which occurs due to the collection of fluid. Normally there is a sac around the testis that has no fluid and it is empty and collapsed. In hydrocoele, fluid gets collected in this sac. So the fluid is not in the testis but int he sac which is around it. This can happen in newborns when the surgery whould be done much earlier. It also occurs at later age. If it occurs in later age, then surgery is not always required and depends on patients symptoms, size of hydrocoele or if it is because of any infection.

Intestinal Obstruction

Intestinal Obstruction

Our small intestine and large intestine and long tube-like structures. Any blockage within the tube can occur because of infection, tumor, etc. Depending upon the cause and severity of the obstruction, treatment is done. If the obstruction is complete, then the passage gets completely blocked and the patient will have pain, vomiting, and abdomen distension. In that condition, emergency surgery may be required to save the patient's life.  The blocked area is removed and normal passage is restored. Occasionally, if the blockage is not complete,  surgery may be avoided but that is a careful decision that the surgeon can make only after he monitors the patient closely for a few days.

Intestinal Perforation

Intestinal perforation, defined as a loss of continuity of the bowel wall, is a potentially devastating complication that may result from a variety of disease processes. Common causes of perforation include trauma, instrumentation, inflammation, infection, malignancy, ischemia, and obstruction.

In most cases, surgery is necessary to close the hole and treat the condition. In rare cases, your doctor may forgo surgery and prescribe antibiotics alone if the hole closed on its own.

Kidney Surgeries

Kidney Surgeries

Kidney stones

The kidneys are responsible for filtering your blood and producing urine. These two fist-sized organs are located on both sides of your spine, just below your rib cage. Kidneys can become damaged due to chronic conditions like high blood pressure or diabetes; can have cysts, stones or tumors; or can become blocked, so that urine can’t flow properly to the bladder.

Different types of procedures can treat these and other kidney problems—some involve surgery. Increasingly, surgeons perform minimally invasive laparoscopic and robotic surgical techniques when possible.
